Dear Friend and Benefactor :
Do you remember when Joliet Area Community Hospice humbly began back in 1982? By the following year, JACH already served 127 patients. We have been steadily growing in service and memories ever since!
Remember how the ladies Guild formed to plan and assist in early fundraising efforts, even launching the raffle of a mint-condition 1947 Chevrolet? Early Guild leaders recognized the value of the comforting presence and service we provide to patients and families facing life-limiting illness, grief and loss, regardless of ability to pay. By 1989, JACH had given loving support and care to over 1,000 patients and their families.
Remember when we opened the doors to the first free-standing hospice home inpatient unit in Illinois back in May 2004? While the heart of hospice care will always be helping people remain in their home, many are unable to do so because of pain and symptoms that require 24-hour expert care.
In the 15 years since the hospice home inpatient unit has been in operation, there have been important changes in medicine and care. During that time, we have also come to realize what types of facility improvements would optimize the inpatient experience for patients and families. With this in mind, we held a ceremonial groundbreaking in April on a 12-room expansion of the inpatient unit, as well as renovations to the existing facility. This will increase patient rooms from 16 to 20 — making this the largest hospice home in the state. Enhancements include a multifamily kitchen and dining area, a larger commercial kitchen, French doors with private patios in each patient room and larger spiritual space. A $3.5 million capital campaign called “Remembering from the Heart” will help us make these improvements.
Last year, JACH cared for more than 2,000 patients, with 517 in our hospice home. With greater capacity, we can care for even more patients in the future.
You can remember and honor those who helped build this important organization while also remembering loved ones you have lost. Your tax-deductible gift to the Remembering from the Heart campaign will support the costs of the addition and renovations and help put us over the $3.5 million goal. Thank you for considering a gift today.
