Hospice Home Inpatient Unit
In 2004, Joliet Area Community Hospice (JACH) brought the FIRST free-standing Hospice Home inpatient unit in the State of Illinois to our community.
The JACH inpatient unit is a home-like facility with 16 patient rooms, designed to provide short term care to terminally ill patients who are experiencing pain or symptoms related to their terminal illness that is not manageable at home.
2019 will mark the beginning of construction of a $7 million capital project to build a 12-room addition to the Hospice Home and renovate and enhance the existing unit. The new inpatient unit will have 20 total patient rooms and the ability to convert family gathering rooms to patient rooms in the future, a family kitchen, enlarged spiritual gathering room, nurses located closer to their patients, private patios outside each patient room with the ability to go outside to enjoy the fresh air and grounds even if confined to a bed, and many more enhancements. Completion is expected in the Winter of 2020, with patients being cared for in the unit throughout the construction.
Patient & Guest Information
Visitors are always welcome at the Inpatient Unit. There are no restrictions on number of visitors, ages, or times of visiting. Although we encourage family members to go home and rest, a family member may stay overnight. Accommodations will be available in your loved one’s room.
Meals are prepared in the onsite kitchen and will be planned to accommodate the patient’s preferences and needs. Meals are also provided to visitors upon request. The dining room is available to use for family get-togethers or special meals.
We know that a patient’s pet is very important, and many times considered a part of the family. Dogs and cats are considered special visitors. Please speak with a member of the staff about planning a visit with your furry family member.
Telephone and Computer Availability:
We know how important keeping in touch with family members can be when you are away from home. Each patient room is equipped with a phone that has its own private phone number to allow family members to call direct to the room. Phone calls can also be transferred to the patient’s room from the nurses’ station. A computer with internet access is available for patient or visitor use in the Family Room. Free WIFI is available.
Each patient room is equipped with a TV, DVD, and Radio/CD Player. A variety of movies and CD’s are available to choose from at the nurses’ station. There is also a TV in the Family Room along with a selection of books, games and magazines for patients and visitors to enjoy. A children’s playroom is available to entertain younger visitors.
The Inpatient Unit has 16 private patient bedrooms, (all with private bathrooms and sleeping accommodations for family members), a family room, living room, dining room, kitchen, patient spa room, children’s playroom and a solace room for patient and family use. Although, we understand that there truly is “no place like home” for our patients and their families, we strive to provide the next best thing.
Families are invited to enjoy the grounds, sit outside and walk the path surrounding the ‘lake’.
