Why Volunteer

Volunteers are the Heart of Hospice

Whether you work directly with patients and their families or provide support behind the scenes, volunteering at Joliet Community Hospice is very rewarding. As a JACH volunteer, you’ll become part of a highly dedicated and caring group of extraordinary people. More importantly your contribution will make a considerable difference in the lives of others when they need support the most.

JACH volunteers range from students to retirees, homemakers to professionals, individuals to service groups. Although all have different reasons for volunteering, they have one thing in common- the desire to support terminally ill patients and their families during their end of life journey.

Trained volunteers are integral members of the Joliet Area Community Hospice team- we could not provide the comprehensive, high quality end of life care without our volunteers’ contributions. Assignments are scheduled on a weekday, weekend and on-call basis.

We retain Volunteer Applications for a minimum of one (1) year.  Due to our patient and family needs and the volume of applications received, we are not able to accommodate every applicant at this time. If after one (1) year you have not been placed in a volunteer role but are still interested in volunteering, please resubmit a Volunteer Application.

To honor the grieving process, volunteers are asked to wait a year after the death of a loved one before becoming an JACH Hospice volunteer.
