All volunteers must undergo training in preparation of their chosen roles with Joliet Area Community Hospice. Coupled with individual talents, experience and interests, our training helps volunteers gain the appropriate knowledge and skills necessary to accomplish their assignments with confidence. Volunteers can complete required training anytime online, from a laptop, tablet, or mobile device or they can attend in-person classes which are offered twice a year.
All volunteers will learn the basics of the hospice philosophy and the history and structure of our organization. Volunteers who choose to work directly with hospice patients, or their family, must complete further training or professional certification may be required depending on the volunteer role you choose.
Additional training and support are provided on an on-going basis – at least once each quarter. You are encouraged to participate in all on-going training activities. Volunteers must complete a re-orientation and be evaluated annually to maintain an active status.
